Roxy Overload
By David Michael
Roxy stood in the middle of a crowd of overworked, stayed-late-because-the-boss-insisted cubicle dwellers just like her, waiting for the tube and sweating in the heat. From crowded gray cubes to crowded gray concrete tube station, Roxy wasn’t sure she could tell the difference. Except for the lack of adequate air conditioning. Her ears felt the pressure of the next train arriving. She let herself think that she was almost home. She imagined the rush of air and the roar of the track as a cool autumn breeze before a much-needed thunderstorm.
Trood: OMG! I just remembered…
Roxy sighed, imagination crushed by the intrusion of her implants. She didn’t respond right away as she flowed along with the press of nearing-the-end-of-rush-hour commuters. She could guess what Trudy had forgotten, and didn’t want to think of what it meant. She already had plans for the evening. Lame plans, maybe, but they were her plans. Hers!

While Eating Lunch I Read…
Mouse Guard: Fall 1152 by David Petersen.

Still Writing…
760 words
Not quite as speedy as yesterday. Only 760 words in an hour. So it goes, sometimes. On the plus side, I think I’m seeing the ending of this story.
I’m thinking that, as of next week, I’ll only post my weekly writing progress report. Daily word count posts seem to clutter things.

Just Finished Reading…

Speed Writing
1095 words
Not bad for 45 minutes or so. Sometimes, the words really do just come in a gush.
This story is getting long. Just under 6K words now. And still going.

Some Writing…

Distracted and abbreviated by accumulated work today. I’ll be back tomorrow.

Writing Writing…
1038 words
I got a later start today than I expected. But I still clocked 1K words in only a bit over an hour. Not as fast as Friday, though, when I think I did 1K words in about 45 minutes. Maybe I’m even writing well while writing fast. One can always hope.

Resumed Writing…
1012 words
I’m at 3000 words with this story now. Still not sure how long it will be. I’m just about finished with the setup. If the whole story is 3X the length of the setup (which seems to be what I do), then it might come in at nearly 10K words. Long for a short story. But if it works–it’ll be very cool.
I need to decide on a longer, more novel-like project, I think. Connected short stories, maybe. Or, hell, maybe even a novel.
